Modification Of CMU Distance-Learning Au.D.

Tuition Assistance Program

The Joint Services/Department of Veterans Affairs Au.D. Steering Committee has modified its tuition assistance program for government audiologists who participant in the Central Michigan University (CMU) distance-education Au.D. program. Under the revised program, new participants in the CMU program are eligible for up to $5,000 in tuition assistance. These funds will continue to be provided as a tuition credit at the University. Participants in other distance-education based Au.D. programs will continue to be eligible for a one-time $1,000 stipend check, issued by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, Bethesda, MD.

Under the modified CMU program, eligibility for the new tuition credit is as follows:

  1. Admitted to the program after May 1, 2002.
  2. Active duty military or full-time civil service (GS) audiologists.
  3. Completion of one full year of study based on date of enrollment in first course.
  4. Completion of 12 credit hours of coursework.
  5. A 3.0 or higher grade point average.
  6. Not receiving other government tuition assistance.

Participants who are receiving other government tuition assistance that pays for less than half of the participant’s tuition fees (and who meet eligibility criteria a-e above) may receive a tuition credit of up to $2,500. Participants who are receiving other government tuition assistance that pays for more than half of the participant’s tuition fees are not eligible for a tuition credit.

Current participants in the CMU program (i.e., enrolled prior to May 1, 2002) who have completed less than half of their course work (‹18 credits) and who meet eligibility criteria b-d above will be awarded a tuition credit of $2,500 if they have not already received the $1,000 tuition credit available under the current program. If they have already received the $1,000 tuition credit, they will automatically be awarded an additional $1,500 credit and do not have to apply for it. Participants who have completed half or more of their course credits (‹18 credits) will not be eligible for an additional tuition credit.

Participants meeting the eligibility criteria can apply for the modified tuition assistance in the same manner as the old program; that is, using the form that is available on the CMU website.

Questions about the new tuition credit program should be directed to Dr. Brian E. Walden, Executive Secretary, Joint Services/Department of Veterans Affairs Steering Committee.
