President’s Message – 2008

Greetings from Janet P. Sells Au.D.

First I want to thank LTC Dale Ostler for his service as MAA President for the past year. He continues to serve on the MAA board and his input is always valuable and appreciated. Maj Virginia Hays is the current Vice-President, LTC Tuten is the secretary/treasurer, and Marge Jylkka and LT Michele Kee are the executive secretaries. Maj Rob Pluta is our wonderful web master who will help to keep us all informed during the on-coming months. He also continues to act as a permanent advisor to the Executive Board.

The primary business of the day is gearing up for the 2008 Military Audiology Short Course in Portland, Oregon from Feb 18th (Breakout day) to Feb 20th. The 19th and the 20th will be guest speakers, member presentations and vendor sessions. LT Kirsten Vesey Au.D. and Lynn E. Cook Au.D. have volunteered to coordinate the vendors/sponsors for the course. MAJ Alicia Alexander and Maj Lorraine Wynn are the coordinators for their specialty for the submission of presentations and arranging the details of the conference. I hope we will have a good number of relevant presentations to stimulate conversation. Please get back to your advisors as soon as possible, if you are planning to present. The conference really comes down to what we as individuals put into it and are willing to share with our community. Capt Pedersen has offered to find a banquet facility for our dinner Tuesday evening the 19th. If you have any suggestion or wish to assist him, I am sure he will appreciate all the help you can offer.

The revised by-laws are now available for your review. They will be voted on at the MASC 2008 business meeting. If you have any questions or suggestions, please send them to me ahead of time so the executive board can discuss them.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Portland. If you have any suggestions or ideas about speakers, meeting arrangements, anything at all, I will appreciate all and any input you can offer. Thank you.
