THE AMERICAN SPEECH-LANGUAGE-HEARING ASSOCIATION'S (ASHA) Clinical Specialty Board (CSB) met 17 October 1998 to review the Stage II application for Specialty Recognition in Occupational Audiology. Unfortunately, it was not approved. The CSB and our facilitator encourage us to revise and resubmit the Specialty Recognition Application. They have provided specific feedback to help us with the revision.
The Occupational Audiology Petitioning Group (which includes the National Hearing Conservation Association, Military Audiology Association, Air Force Audiology Association, and ASHA Special Interest Division #8: Hearing Conservation and Occupational Audiology) was given the following options:
All Petitioning Group organizations have agreed to revise and resubmit the application and have assigned Mary McDaniel, LTC Lynn Henselman, LtCol Theresa Schulz and Barbara Garrett as Petitioning Group representatives to help with the revision. One of our overriding goals is to keep the procedure for individuals applying for Specialty Recognition as simple and straight forward as possible while ensuring a high standard for this recognition.
A teleconference was held on 24 November with CSB members to clarify and plan our strategy. Our new CSB facilitator, Judy Achilles; the CSB Chair, Mary Saylor; as well as our out-going facilitator, Susan Langmore applauded our efforts and believe that we can be successful.
