We’re fortunate to have an abundance of new talent at Wilford Hall. Let’s get to know them better.
I am 1Lt Jeffrey D. Graley from Beckley WV. I attended West Virginia University for my undergraduate and graduate education. I enjoy spending time with my new wife and golfing.
I have always had an interest in the Air Force and after graduate school I was given the opportunity to join the Air Force and receive a broad CFY experience. The Air Force was my first and only choice due to the quality of life and positive comments from friends of mine currently in the Air Force. My experience in the Air Force so far has been everything I had expected. I have already seen a wide variety of patients while having access to nearly any kind testing available.
1Lt Kwame Curtis is from Springfield, Illinois. I attended the University of Missouri and Illinois State University. I participated in volunteer opportunities and intercollegiate sports. While attending Illinois State, I completed audiology internships at Carle Hospital at the University of Illinois and at Christie Clinic in Champaign, IL. My interests include traveling, biking, music, and theatre.
Reasons for teaming up with the Air Force include the opportunities to travel, as well as meet and experience new cultures and surroundings. Since joining the Air Force I have had many educational and practical training experiences that have enhanced my ability to be an effective officer and clinician.
I believe the difference that exists at Wilford Hall that was lacking at some of my previous civilian assignments include the ability to perform a vast variety of clinical batteries at any given appointment. I also have the autonomy to make many of the decisions myself. Another big difference that I find exists is, in the Air Force, once you meet someone you make a point on remembering who he or she are and where they are stationed for future reference. In turn, that person reciprocates.
1Lt Shannon Dettle is from Tomah, WI and completed her undergraduate degree in Communicative Disorders at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. She then received her graduate degree in Audiology at Lamar University in Beaumont. Proceeding, she decided to join the Air Force because of the overall experience that it offers. So far, she is truly enjoying the Air Force life. It fulfills many areas of a person’s life that cannot be offered at a civilian job.
1Lt Brandon Tourtillott—I am from Fort Scott, Kansas, which is a small town about an hour South of Kansas City. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University in 2000, and then earned a Master of Science Degree in Audiology from Southwest Missouri State University in 2002. I am married and have two children (Abby 4 yrs, and Katelyn 20 months). I joined the Air Force because I thought it would be a fun and interesting start to my career where I would get great experience. So far my experience has been good, I think I am going to enjoy Air Force Audiology. Most things so far have been similar to my expectations but I was suprised at the wide range of services that are provided, I think most people think of military audiology as mostly hearing conservation.
