MEMORANDUM FOR AFMC MEDICAL FACILITIES

SUBJECT:   Use of DoD Instruction 6055.12, Hearing Conservation Programs at AFMC 
Bases

1.  In the absence of a current AF Instruction governing the administration of the USAF 
Hearing Conservation Program, AFMC bases are authorized to follow directives in DoD 
Instruction 6055.12, Hearing Conservation Programs (April 1996).  AFI 48-20 that 
implements DoDI 6055.12 is being finalized.  Pending implementation of AFI 48-20, 
Occupational Health Officers and Hearing Conservation Program Managers are to cite 
DoDI 6055.12 as justification for the use of the new standard threshold shift (STS) 
criteria and the new follow-up procedures incorporated in the within the Defense 
Occupational Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation (DOHRS-HC) system.

2.  This policy is in effect until the implementation of Air Force Instruction 48-20.  If you
